4.4-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Islamabad, Attock and Swabi

ISLAMABAD – Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Attock and Swabi, on Saturday. Residents reported brief shaking and vibrations in homes and offices. Authorities advised calm as the tremors lasted only a few seconds. The Seismological Centre confirmed the earthquake measured 4.4 on the Richter scale. The quake had a depth of 14 kilometres.

Officials said the epicentre was located 11 kilometres northeast of the Burhan area in Attock district. They added that monitoring teams were dispatched to assess any potential impact. Local authorities urged people to stay alert for aftershocks. No immediate reports of injuries or damage were received. Residents described the tremors as mild but noticeable.

Tremors were also felt in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a day earlier. The previous earthquake measured 5.6 in magnitude and had a depth of 73 kilometres. Its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region. Authorities said the region remains seismically active. They continue monitoring earthquake-prone areas closely.

Seismologists said Pakistan experiences frequent low- to moderate-intensity earthquakes. They stressed that such tremors rarely cause casualties if safety precautions are followed. The government continues to coordinate with disaster management teams for readiness.

Residents were advised to remain cautious during minor aftershocks. Authorities encouraged reporting unusual cracks or structural damages immediately.
